Market Village was a Chinese-themed mall that opened in 1990. It was one of the largest Chinese malls in North America with a total area of 325,000 square feet and had over170 stores. The mall was located on the east side of Steeles Avenue, across from Pacific Mall. The mall offered a variety of products and services, such as clothing, electronics, jewelry, groceries, health and beauty, travel, education and more. It also had a food court with various cuisines, such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese. The mall was owned and operated by Northwest Properties, a privately owned real estate investment, development and management company based in Victoria, BC. The company plans to redevelop the mall into a mixed-use project called The Remington Centre. The Remington Centre should be a modern and innovative urban destination that will feature retail, office, residential and entertainment spaces. It will also have a cultural centre that will showcase the diversity and heritage of the Asian community. The Remington Centre is expected to be completed by 2025. It will have a total leasable area of 800,000 square feet and a total land area of 28 acres. It will also have a new pedestrian bridge that will connect it to Pacific Mall.
