Came in to alter two beautiful dresses (a navy and pink dress) at the recommendation of the store at which I bought them. It was suggested that I ask that the owner, Charles, to work on them since he is not only a great tailor, but has worked on the navy dress before and will know his way around the seams. After putting in the time to mark the appropriate alterations, I am slapped with a charge of $250. I needed time to think about it, so I decided to come in two days later with the intention of seeing whether he can lower the price a bit. Otherwise, I decided I would leave behind only the navy dress since I would not be able to afford to alter both at the time. I went in, asked if he can give me a deal for both dresses, he said he cant, I replied "ok no worries, I'll leave only the navy", he said "better that you take both" - and INSISTED that I take both, very rudely. I was willing to pay whatever he asked for the navy but he really insisted that I take both - guess he doesn't want me as a customer. I felt humiliated and insulted with his treatment, as though someone is shooing me from their home. I am not saying he is not a good tailor, he likely is - but I do know, based on my experience, that he is egotistical, rude, and has poor customer retention skills. Good luck with your business.
