Japanese Fashion Coming To Western Canada

If Toronto was too far away for you to experience the shopping of the latest collections of popular Japanese retailer UNIQLO, now you can visit the new two floors store in Burnaby. The famous fashion retailer from Japan has opened it’s first location in Western Canada at Metropolis at Metrotown, east of Vancouver. More locations will follow as the company expands all over the region. The 20,630 square foot store will welcome visitors on upper and lower floor, offering affordable but good quality fashion for for men, women and kids. For the most pickiest ones, UNIQLO has prepared some signature items such as BLOCKTECH, Ultra Light Down, HEATTECH, Cashmere, Extra Fine Merino, as well as the Uniqlo U collection and the UNIQLO and JW ANDERSON collection. Both floors of the store include items from men’s and women’s collections.

This store is the third one in Canada, having in mind they already opened two stores in Toronto last year. UNIQLO Founder and CEO Tadashi Yanai said that his focus now is on Montreal, and that this city is the next destination for expansion of the UNIQLO brand. In spring next year, the brand will open it’s flagship store in downtown Vancouver.

As a part of it’s new retail space, UNIQLO’s Metrotown store includes a corner that was once Ben Moss jewellers, while the lower floor is part of the space formerly occupied by Home Outfitters.

All UNIQLO store launchings have very creative segments and they are followed by famous local Kagamiwari ceremony — a traditional ceremony held in Japan for celebrations. They serve Sake Dassai, a top quality sake brand from Yamaguchi Prefecture, region where Uniqlo was founded 33 years ago.

In September last year, Mr. Yanai announced serious expansion in the retail market of Canada with plans to eventually open, up to 100 stores around the state.

UNIQLO opened it’s first Canadian flagship store, in the fall last year, spanning 33,400 square feet, at CF Toronto Eaton Centre. Only a month later, the brand presented it’s new retail location to the public at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, proudly inviting visitors to experience shopping at another 30,000+ square foot space.

Today, UNIQLO operates around 1,900 stores in nineteen countries worldwide, including Japan, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, U.K. and the United States.
