Good News For Sport Lovers: Sportium New Stores Coming Up

Over the next three years, sporting goods retailer Sportium will open up to six new stores in greater Toronto area, Ontario and Quebec. Recently, the brand has opened it’s third store in the Centre Laval shopping mall, located in the Chomedey district. The Laval store has two floors, size of 70,000-square-foot, and is worth of $15 million. About 110 people were given jobs and there are more new positions to be offered as the expansion continues.

The Chomedey store can be proud of it’s urban design, since it was built in concrete walls with white lacquered displays. At the entrance all the visitors will be able to watch different content on 16 screens showcasing promotional videos, interviews with athletes and occasional sporting events.

The ground floor of the store is dedicated to personal clothing and casual style items, as well as training accessories for activities such as running and yoga. In the same level the buyers will be able to choose between hundreds of models of sport shoes with the impressive selection of brands. The second floor has everything for team sports such as tennis, hockey, soccer, football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.

Let’s see what else the team of Sportium will offer in the future, having in mind they have signed a partnership with major sporting events such as the Montreal International Triathlon and IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant.

Norman Décarie, Chief Executive Officer and owner of the brand said there is room for close to five to ten more stores in the Toronto region, depending on the availability of land and buildings and that he will continue developing the brand expansion in The Ottawa-Gatineau region as well.

I want to have the stores closer to head office to have a good supervision and a good understanding of the customer’s profile and then we will be more than ready to spread ourselves – he said. The aim of the CEO of the brand is to offer a wide selection of items and many brand-name sports products in a store that is larger than a football field. Décarie says the sporting goods industry has always held it’s place despite economic crisis.

Beginners and professionals are the target group of Sportium, having in mind the visitors will be able to buy full range equipment for all the sports, including specialized clothing and footwear of world famous brands. All of these products will be available on the company’s website, as well.
