Alberni Mall is an outdoor shopping mall located in Port Alberni, a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The mall was opened in 1979 as an indoor mall, It was the first indoor mall in Port Alberni and received support from the city’s mayor, council, and major retailers. The mall underwent a major renovation and redevelopment in 2007, which transformed it into an outdoor mall and changed its name to Alberni Mall. The renovation also added a new anchor tenant, Canadian Tire, which replaced the former Kmart store that was demolished in 1998.

The mall is currently owned by Bayfield Realty Advisors Inc., a Canadian real estate investment and management company based in Toronto. The mall features a strong mix of nationally-recognized retailers accounting for 95% of the rentable area. Some of the stores and services at the mall include Canadian Tire, Mark’s, Home Hardware, The Brick. The mall has a total retail floor area of 155,442 sq ft and has one floor. Alberni Mall has currently 11 store locations and services. The mall is ideally positioned on Highway 4, the primary thoroughfare between Victoria/Nanaimo and Vancouver Island’s western tourist regions with an estimated 1.5 million vehicles annually. The mall enjoys prominent visibility and has a large parking lot for customers. The mall is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Some interesting facts about the mall are:

• The mall was originally called Alberni Mall when it opened in 1979, but it changed its name to Port Alberni Mall in 1984 to avoid confusion with another shopping centre in the city called Alberni Plaza. The mall reverted to its original name of Alberni Mall after the renovation in 2007.
