(3/5) Don't blame new staff for poor service

Having worked at this particular store, I am not surprised that service is poor. Employees are paid minimum wage and commission based on the dollar amount of the sales they are credited with. The store manager at the time, and two full-time, long term employees, rang in most of the sales. And credited themselves. Any new employee would barely make their weekly sales target, and thus make little in commissions. But, the full-time staff would ring in the sales and instead of crediting the employee who had helped the customer, would take the sale for themselves. When I questioned it, I was told that just because I got the person a different size or different color, that didn't qualify as "making a sale". I have seen a steady stream of new employees since I left, most recently an ad last week looking for yet another part time sales person. When staff are cheated out of their commissions, they don't have much incentive to provide good service. And, if the full time staff don't think you are going to spend a lot, they won't bother with helping you. Whenever I go into the store, I find my own items, then seek out a new employee and have them hang out with me for a few minutes. I always ask that the new employee be given credit for the sale and I check my receipt to make sure it is done. Or, better still, I often shop online. The vultures in the store don't get the commission on online sales, the district manager does! I would rate the store and the bargains and selection 5 star, but the staff 1 star.

On Wednesday, June 29, 2017 my friend and I had a most unsatisfactory visit to your store. We have been shopping there for a number of years and this is the first time we experienced the less than pleasant customer service. We visit this store about 4 times per year - we live almost 2 hours from the store so we need to plan our outing. This is the first time that we were left with a feeling that we were not needed as customers. We did receive excellent service from Michelle, however that can not be said for the more experienced staff. We felt when we asked them a question we were being dismissed. We also found that there was a decided lack of the sizes and styles we were looking for throughout the store. At the checkout it was no better - normally we are asked for our phone numbers bit this was not done and when asked we were told "oh, it really doesn't matter and I have finished ringing up your order". To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We try to find an email address to send this complaint to but couldn't so thus the review. One day has spoiled a decade of loyalty on our part. If we could give negative stars, we would.
